Schaaf Drafted by the Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers picked Saginaw Arthur Hill pitcher Mike Schaaf in the 18th round Wednesday during the second day of the Major League Baseball draft.
Schaaf’s season highlights include 157 strikeouts with a 0.98 ERA while registering speeds of 93 mph on the radar gun. At the plate he hit over .600 with 53 RBI’s. As a junior the hard hitting first baseman hit 13 homeruns.
Peak Performance Baseball owners Mark Krzysiak and Tom Merkle believe that Mike is just scratching the surface and believe that his size and work ethic will help contribute to a very promising future for the 6’ 7” 235 pound right hander. “The Saginaw Valley area has yet to see a body and arm from a player like this, and the way Mike has worked over the last two months it will be awesome to watch him throughout his career.” stated Krzysiak.
Mike was the starting pitching for the West Team in The Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game at Commerica Park. Mike threw three shutout innings allowing 1 hit while striking out 2 batters, at the plate Mike was 1 for 2 with a single.
